Don't diss the dragons

There are dragons in my dreams. They tell me their secrets from when the world began and how our stories intertwine.
I never cared about dragons one way or another. I didn't seek out books about them or draw their pictures when I doodled. I didn't pay much attention as to why they pop up throughout the world in many cultures with their leathery wings and spiked spines and fiery breath.
But, for whatever reason, they sought me out, whispering tales in my ears and making them spill out my fingers.
And now I see them.

  1. Maybe dragons are your power animal. Where you born in the year of the dragon?

    What a fabulous kite!

  2. That's a gorgeous kite! I love dragons - probably since reading McCaffrey's Pern series :) Have fun!

  3. Bish: Isn't that kite the best?
Nope, not year of the dragon, but lately those dragons show up everywhere. :)

Jemi: I've begun to create mythologies of my own concerning them. Interestingly, the myths were developed differently in two WIPs.

  4. Flying dragons are my favorite. Somehow they are less threatening than the lumbering earth bound variety.

  5. What marvelous pictures!

Funny, because this morning I was thinking about George R.R. Martin and wondering if he set out to write a book with dragons. Maybe they're just very good at sneaking up on authors and whispering stories in their ears.

  7. LaraineE: Wouldn't it be incredible to fly on one? I loved that scene in Harry Potter, because it was so wild and uncertain.

    Donna: Indeed. Heard any lately?

Stephanie: Thank you! I love the things I stumble upon when I go for walks.
Dragon whisperers. I like the sound of that.

LaraineH: I need that magic in sooooo many ways. :)

"Oh, to be a dragon . . . felicitous phenomenon!"

  9. Once the dragons start talking to you, it is impossible to keep them quiet...

And once you start seeing them, you see them Everywhere.

Welcome to the wonderful world of dragons!!

  11. What a beautiful kite.

I think every writer has a dragon inside them. And if they listen hard enough, they will hear it whisper.

hope you are well, Pat. :)

  13. Hello, Charmaine, nice to meet you, and thanks so much!

Angela: I'm hanging in there by fingertip or talons. ;) Thanks, my friend.

Julie: It's funny how hot and cold people are toward dragons. One editor at a conference said she wouldn't read anything with a dragon in it. I'm glad you love them!

Talli: I've been amazed by the tales they whisper! :D

  14. I want dragons to be real. It doesn't seem that far-fetched, at least back in the days of knights and wizardry. E. Nesbit's "The Deliverers of Their Country" is a fun one, and "The Reluctant Dragon" by Kenneth Grahame. Patricia Wrede's "Dealing With Dragons" series is delightful, and then there's Jane Yolen. Maybe I just cut my reading teeth on dragons. Lovely post.

  15. Faith: What makes things real? In our imaginations they are every bit that, as well as in those stories you mention. I love Wrede and Yolan tales. Thanks for the lovely comment!
