Patricia J. O'Brien, writer
I live inside my head. A lot.
Sometimes I'm a cyborg, a mermaid, a dragon. From the time I could first read, I lost myself in characters, saw the world through the eyes of others, had experiences far beyond my backyard.
As a writer, I can be a skinwalker, a shapeshifter, anything at all. I can leap, fly, burrow to the farthest reach of space or bottom of the sea. The possibilities have no boundaries.
I write mostly YA fantasy, dabble in haiku and love shooting photos. The earth is my muse. Give me sand under my feet, pelicans skimming a wave, a crystal-clear desert sky streaked with shooting stars, a forest trail perfumed by pines.
In my former life as Pat O'Brien I was a features writer for a daily newspaper. It's an incredible way to meet diverse and astonishing people. I learned the discipline of deadlines and accuracy, the art of interviewing and the necessity of research.
I was born in France, lived briefly in England, and grew up in New York, Ohio and California.
You can call me Pat, Tricia or Patricia. I'm used to walking in assorted shoes.
Here is a picture I took of myself (reflected in a mirror) for my blog when I started it in 2009.
