Between storms

between storms I walk,
jumping new streams, inhaling
sweet sharpness of cedar
We have been drenched by rain in sunny Southern California, resulting in flooding, accidents and downed trees, but also in the delight of blustery wind, pink cheeks, pattering hail and sparkling freshness. I walked, I clicked photos, I wrote.
Most especially, I've written almost 3,000 words in the last couple of days after two dry weeks. Yay, me. Hope you're refreshed, too.

Oooo, lovely. Your clouds look like a painting. We Californians appreciate a bit of real weather.

Ooh I love your cloud photo. I love painting clouds, they're so beautiful. It's meant to be summer here but we've had over a week of cloudy, rainy weather now and I love it. Rain is my favorite weather.

That's the good thing about New Zealand, we can have four seasons in a day - every day!

Hooray for your writing and I love your cloud picture. I read in the paper about the storms in CA this morning. Stay safe and dry.

Wonderful! A "wet" spell. Or perhaps you've found the bucket with which to dip water out of your well.

Glad the gnomes have gone...maybe they were washed downstream a bit.

Lovely photo.

Congrats on the writing progress. It's wonderful to end a dry spell. And I love the picture and poem. I always feel soothed and mellow after visiting your blog...very good vibes.

Wow! What makes me happy? Waking up to so many lovely comments.

Donna and Wendy: I wish I could paint clouds, but they're really hard. I'm so impressed that you can Wendy, although from the work you've shown on your blog I shouldn't be surprised.

Jade: Ha! If you saw how little I did before this spurt, you wouldn't be.

Vicky and Tab: Glad I could refresh and thanks!

Rick: It really energizes me to watch storms, too.

JB: I know! I was doing the happy dance, because I've broken through a logjam in the story.

Liza: I'm trying to avoid freeways and just enjoy, not fight, the rain.

Bish: Wet spell. I love it!

Shelley: Ha! Yes, here's hoping they're gone.

Linda: Oh, that is such a lovely thing to say. Thank you so much!

It sounds like the rain was greatly needed! Strange how one event can be seen in so many lights. Strange and tragic and beautiful and... I'll stop now.

Your photo, as always, is lovely. I'm thrilled to hear that with the rain came your words. Happy writing. :-)

Your blog is like a breath of fresh air. Everything you write is so poetic and beautiful and filled with light. Thanks for that.

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

Nisa: The rain was most definitely needed, but perhaps not all at once!

Shannon: Maybe I should move to the Pacific Northwest. ;)

Carolina: Thank you! I am most pleased to hear this.

After 2 dry weeks, girl, you are in a happy flood of words. Relish it. It is yours.

I'm loving these storms. We had fog this morning! Fog! In Las Vegas!

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

Jemi: Clearing the air. Yes, that is just what it does. Deep breath, new starts and all.

Terresa: Splashing away here.

Laura: Fog in Vegas? Sounds like a story in there somewhere.

And a beautiful photo it is. Violent weather inspires, like putting your arms around an old oak tree.

Happy writing.

Yvonne: Thanks! That's me--tree-huggin', storm-chaser. :D

Shelli: Great equation, ha!

Don't forget the thunder! So odd, I jumped at the first clap. The rain is amazing. It's been stirring story in me too. : )

I've been loving these storms. We so need the water. Good work on you wip, Tricia. Keep it up!

Congrats! Your dry patch must have been the calm before a storm of writing. :)
I'm getting anxiety feeling like I need to write faster so we can catch this mermaid wave. Wish I could wiggle my fins and be finished. Oh wait, no fins. :( lol.

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

Suzanne: It's been quite a week of real weather for us. Stirring is a good word!

Mel: I love it, too. I'm sorry for those who've had hard times, but these storms will add snow pack and fill reservoirs, and that is soooooo needed after the drought.

Karen: I know! I'm trying to make myself write every day now. I feel like I can't afford to slack off. Here's hoping we get that ride. :)

And here I though y'all in Souther CA were immune to the storms of us Northerners.

At least I got an extra half-day off without taking vacation time when they sent us all home.

And I did do some writing - but I won't admit to the puny word count.

Beautiful photo and I love the haiku, too! Hasn't the rain been great? Everything feels refreshed, including me. Like you, I've written at least 5,000 words over the last four or five days. Keep it up!
