The Avengers!

The Avengers! Yes, today I"m going to see a film I expect to love, love, love. I mean, super-ego superheroes and Joss?

In case you haven't noticed I've had crush on Joss Whedon's creative view of life for a long time. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is  filled with wit and social awareness and those kind of deeper meanings that stick to you and follow you like a shadow. Not only did fans like me latch on to it from the start and watch episodes again and again, it became the focus of scholarly essays, symposiums, even college courses. Joss is both genius and geek with a career that proves it.

Here's a Whedon quote I love: "Make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then, for the love of God, tell a joke."

So who better than Joss to translate the long, rich comic-book lives of Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, the Black Widow to the big screen? And *rubs hands* pull them together to go against the Trickster Loki and his army.

I expect laughter and thrills while the planet is avenged!

Are you going?

* Next Day! Still hyperventilating. Is that hyperbole? Yes, but I love this movie so much I'm going back very, very soon. Wanted to buy another ticket as soon as I walked out but the lines were snaking all around. I won't spoil it by telling you anything except it's everything Joss Whedon brings to stories--wit, smarts, hilarity, well-balanced ensembles with developed characters, including the bad guy. The special effects rock, and the fight scenes, well, never seen anything quite like them. Still grinning, and that's not exaggeration.

And, be sure to sit through all the credits. There are a couple of surprises!

Liza: This is a fantastic year for movies. I hope you go to see the Avengers, the Hunger Games, the Dark Knight, the Hobbit, oh I know I'm missing something...

Vic went to see the Avengers a couple of days ago when his boss shouted for everyone at work. He says it's brilliant and he really enjoyed it. It sounds very Whedon, which can only be a fantastic thing! I'm imagining it will be everything Wonder Woman might have been if he'd stayed on board and it hadn't folded.

I didn't want to go until I read the reviews which are across the board fantastic. I love Joss Whedon too, even if he shares a name with my adorable feminine granddaughter, Josslynn.

Wen: Lucky Vic! Did the boss take them or just say, 'Go!' Joss=brilliant to me, so I'm expecting as much.
Only three hours until I go!

Laraine: I've been getting excited seeing the trailers. Some truly exciting and funny stuff. I love Loki saying "I have an army," and Tony Stark replying, "We have a Hulk."
I've been avoiding reviews because I don't like to be accidently brought down before I go out to have fun. But from what I'm seeing in headlines, there's a lot of love.

I've never been a huge superhero fan but I heard this movie got fantastic reviews so far! Aaaand I'm excited for Dark Knight. I want to see the Snow White movie, and (OF COURSE) The Hobbit!

Julie: Isn't it the greatest year in film for us fantasy/sci-fi folks? I'm just jumping with excitement.

Jemi: I love Firefly, too (I own it on DVD along with Buffy). I hope you enjoy Avengers as much as I did.....

BECAUSE, you guys, it rocked! I don't remember when I've had such a great time at the movies. Joss Whedon brought everything to this.

Go! and be sure to sit through the credits for surprises. :)

Today the plan was to go see the movie and go to dinner...date night if you will. I woke up to low water pressure and when I checked outside I had a huge puddle in my yard. Emergency call to Rescue Rooter and I'm waiting for a call back to see when they can get here.

So no movie today and after I get the emergency bill I probably won't be spending the money that will be sucked from my bank account to go see the movie. :(

Michael: Oh, no! So sorry to hear about your plumbing woes and missing the movie. :(
